Sustainability
Imperative

Sustainability: the word that will define the 21st century. Which is precisely the reason why Sapphire is redefining its goals, vision and approach to business with an unequivocal emphasis on our responsibility in building a resilient world. For this reason, we’re embedding sustainability in Sapphire as a strategic imperative by taking decisive action in renewable energy, emissions reduction, recycling and circularity, water conservation, plantation drives, and organic and regenerative agriculture.

Commitment to the
United Nations Global Compact

We understand that a tectonic shift is required towards equitable and inclusive growth, that businesses now have to be more responsible and conscious of their impact. This realization culminated in Sapphire committing to the United Nation Global Compact as an active ‘Participant’ back in 2019. As a responsible member of the world’s manufacturing community, we’re all set to play our due role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, 2030.

Decarbonizing Sapphire

At source, we mitigate carbon emissions through energy efficiency and conservation by investing in green technology and energy-efficient machinery.
We have planted almost 10,000 trees, acting directly as carbon sinks for our emissions.
Since July 2019, we are shifting to a more renewable energy mix with an installed capacity of 500KW of solar power, and have plans in the future to upscale this figure to over 5MW.
Our subsidiaries Sapphire Wind Power Company Limited and Tricon Boston Consulting Corporation Limited built Pakistan’s first wind farms that have an installed capacity of 200MW that is supplied to the national grid, providing renewable energy to 7,000 households in Sindh.
We have committed to set science-based emissions reduction targets for a 1.5 degree Celsius Earth at the turn of the century, and eventually plan to shift to net-zero emissions upon the completion of targets in collaboration with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Sustainable Products/
Materials

Sustainability is not a word it is a collective effort from the suppliers to the consumers to ensurea better and a cherish able world, for now and the times to come. RESTORE has made itsobjective to promote recycling in the textile industry since this industry has a significant impacton the environment. Recycling and reusing textiles, fibers and waste materials is an effectivemethod to build sustainability in the apparel industry. 32% of the consumers look for “recycled”clothing, which indicates human’s natural instincts to take care of what’s important. Let’s re-consume, let’s RESTORE.

Recycled Polyester made from Plastic Bottles

Textile products equivalent to one garbage truck are landfilled every second. We understand that urgent, technologically innovative steps need to be taken in order to reduce the amount of synthetic textiles in the landfill and in the oceans. In response to this concern, our Research & Development Department has developed an up-stream solution in the form of Biodegradable Polyester which allows synthetic plastic-based fibers to behave more like natural fibers. Our Biodegradable Polyester is churned into durable and eco-friendly bedsheets, duvets, comforters, pillows and filling material, and while these products have a strong biodegradability component, they are made to last.

Natural Dyes

Dyeing is one of the top textile processes that pose the most risk to the environment because of the harmful chemicals constituting various synthetic dyes. Sapphire has adopted a more eco-friendly approach by shifting from synthetic dyes to natural dyes which are derived from plants, roots, fruits, wood and nuts. Because natural dyes are drawn from organic resources they are 100% eco-friendly, making them good for the environment, and good for human use!
